Morgan was the wonderful lady I had the pleasure of photographing in one of my favorite fall parks (Devou Park) This was a little tricky session because of the time change we were fighting to keep day light. I love the images we captured and with a wonderful model like Morgan it was a blast. As the sun was setting I had the chance to use one of my favorite ways of shooting at sunset these days, I us only modeling light on my soft box and bring the light really close and let it rip. Some of my favorite shots this fall have been captured using this technique.

I got a great mix of portraits, head shots and performance photos. I even got some behind the scenes. I had a time getting into a few places and angles. Look for a later post about doing whatever it takes to get the shot.

There was only one catch, it had to be that day and only had a few hours to put it all together. There were several elements that were involved and thanks to great help from Cody we captured some great shots. When talking about what was desired in the photographs. Heres is what I was told. We want the fall leaves, white fence, corn stocks and the cows. We captured everything but the cows, who decided they didn't want to come all the way back from the field for a photograph. While I don't believe in making things complex for the sake of being complex I do believe that you should do what ever it takes to get the job done. For me that normaly means Lights, Power Packs, Softboxes, a hanful of flashes, stands, a few Pelican cases, my camera, laptop and all the accessories that you would expect to find on a major photo shoot. Yes my sets continue to become more complex but I feel, and others agree that my work reflects my constant quest for excellence. That being said I have found one outlet that is incredibly simple- and believe it or not there isn't even a flash, it's my iphone. In perticluar a new iphone app and book by one of the best photographers in the world Chase Jarvis, Chases Blog is on the short list of items that gets my eyes at least twice a day, because of a very cool feature in the new Safari browser it allows me to see thumnails of 12 differnt web pages with one glance.

Back on track now, sorry for the little trip down my crazy thought process. As I was saying the "Best Camera" book and app has helped me see things in a simple way and I have really enjoyed seeing what kind of cool photos I could take and process with only my iphone. Below you will find a few from recent days all of them were shot and processed on my iphone the only thing that was done on the computer was putting several together to create one thought. It's funny how something simple and basic could bring me back to my early days of photography, when I would take photos of anything and nothning and have a great time doing it. In a way it's a way of seeing the world though fresh, new and diffent eyes. I laugh when I think of how the two types of photography I enjoy the most, the super complex with multiple lights , crazy locations and a million different things to consider, and the basic one button iphone are at opposite ends of the spectrum.

I encourage you to try to see the world through different eyes by doing something that you love in a different way. This could be writing a short 10 word poem instead of a short story, painting with only one color or going putt puttnig instead of playing a world class course, whatever it is find a new different simpler way of enjoying what bring you joy. Trust me it will be worth it.

Below you will find a collection of photographs, they are not world class portraits, great subject or complex themes but instead the everyday, simple yet beautiful. For more of my iphone photography visit my facebook page for the {photo of the day} and random photos album.
