George & Jordan's Senior Portraits

Monday night I photographed two wonderful seniors George and Jordan. This was one of the few times we were working on location at their home and I wouldn't have had it any other way. They had the perfect location with so many great looks. I am really happy about creating the last set of images for Jordan. During my location scouting she mentioned that she would like to be in the field writing at sunset. I had a few ideas how I wanted this look to go but as we were photographing with the last bits of day light I think we created something way beyond what I had imagined.

Freddie's Senior Portraits

Sunday it was back to Alms Park for Freddie's senior portraits. Freddie has a style that is all his own and it was a blast capturing it. We had 3 major sets and each one turned out to be better than the last. At the last minute we decided to try and use a few different elements of his style and a few lighting techniques and see the results, they were amazing.

Family Photos with a Bike twist

Saturday I had a chance to photograph a wonderful family. We had a great time, they were big Bengals fans and wanted to have a photo taken with their Jerseys on so of course I had to create something original just for them. At the last minute I had a request to create an photograph of their very cool Harley Davidson motorcycle. For this we had to move locations and were able to get a few great frames before the sun went totally to sleep.

Family Portraits

Thursday morning I was contacted to photograph a family in Union. There was only one catch, it had to be that day and only had a few hours to put it all together. There were several elements that were involved and thanks to great help from Cody we captured some great shots. When talking about what was desired in the photographs. Heres is what I was told. We want the fall leaves, white fence, corn stocks and the cows. We captured everything but the cows, who decided they didn't want to come all the way back from the field for a photograph. I love the results of the images and I think they have a very fall theme.

Some Times Simple Is Better

I will never be accused of being too simple when it comes to photography. While I don't believe in making things complex for the sake of being complex I do believe that you should do what ever it takes to get the job done. For me that normaly means Lights, Power Packs, Softboxes, a hanful of flashes, stands, a few Pelican cases, my camera, laptop and all the accessories that you would expect to find on a major photo shoot. Yes my sets  continue to become more complex but I feel, and others agree that my work reflects my constant quest for excellence. That being said I have found one outlet that is incredibly simple- and believe it or not there isn't even a flash, it's my iphone. In perticluar a new iphone app and book by one of the best photographers in the world Chase Jarvis, Chases Blog is on the short list of items that gets my eyes at least twice a day, because of a very cool feature in the new Safari browser it allows me to see thumnails of 12 differnt web pages with one glance.

Back on track now, sorry for the little trip down my crazy thought process. As I was saying the "Best Camera" book and app has helped me see things in a simple way and I have really enjoyed seeing what kind of cool photos I could take and process with only my iphone. Below you will find a few from recent days all of them were shot and processed on my iphone the only thing that was done on the computer was putting several together to create one thought. It's funny how something simple and basic could bring me back to my early days of photography, when I would take photos of anything and nothning and have a great time doing it. In a way it's a way of seeing the world though fresh, new and diffent eyes. I laugh when I think of how the two types of photography I enjoy the most, the super complex with multiple lights , crazy locations and a million different things to consider, and the basic one button iphone are at opposite ends of the spectrum.

I encourage you to try to see the world through different eyes by doing something that you love in a different way. This could be writing a short 10 word poem instead of a short story, painting with only one color or going putt puttnig instead of playing a world class course, whatever it is find a new different simpler way of enjoying what bring you joy. Trust me it will be worth it.

Below you will find a collection of photographs, they are not world class portraits, great subject or complex themes but instead the everyday, simple yet beautiful. For more of my iphone photography visit my facebook page for the {photo of the day} and random photos album.
